In this reinterpretation of the iconic bounty hunter from the Star Wars universe, KAWS transforms the character Boba Fett into one of his unmistakable sculptural figures. The sculpture merges the recognizable armor of the famous Mandalorian warrior with the visual vocabulary of KAWS’ celebrated Companion character. The figure retains Boba Fett’s distinctive helmet and battle armor—complete with jetpack, shoulder plates, and utility belt—but these elements are stylized through KAWS’ playful and graphic approach. The helmet’s visor is replaced by the artist’s signature “X” eyes, instantly identifying the work as part of KAWS’ universe. The body proportions also reflect the rounded, toy-like aesthetic that characterizes many of the artist’s sculptures.

The surface treatment emphasizes a distressed, weathered appearance reminiscent of Boba Fett’s armor in the original films, with subtle abrasions and scratches suggesting the character’s rugged history as a bounty hunter.

This sculpture was produced as a painted vinyl figure in a limited edition of 500. Vinyl has become one of the defining mediums in KAWS’ sculptural practice, allowing the artist to translate his graphic language, originally developed through street art and design, into highly collectible three-dimensional objects.
The use of vinyl also reflects the artist’s longstanding interest in toy culture, mass production, and collectible objects. By adopting manufacturing techniques associated with designer toys and commercial figurines, KAWS blurs the boundaries between fine art sculpture, pop culture, and consumer design.
KAWS first gained prominence in the late 1990s through interventions on advertising billboards and the creation of limited-edition collectible toys. Over time, these objects evolved into a sophisticated sculptural practice that bridges contemporary art, design, and popular culture. This reinterpretation of Boba Fett forms part of the artist’s broader engagement with iconic characters from global entertainment culture. Throughout his career, KAWS has reimagined figures from animation, comics, and popular media, transforming them through his signature visual language.

By merging the aesthetic codes of the Star Wars franchise with his own Companion figure, KAWS creates a hybrid object that resonates simultaneously with art collectors, design enthusiasts, and fans of the film saga. The sculpture exemplifies one of the central themes in KAWS’ work: the reinterpretation of widely recognized cultural symbols through the lens of contemporary art. By altering familiar characters, often replacing their eyes with the distinctive “X” motif, KAWS transforms them into figures that appear both familiar and strangely melancholic.
In this work, the feared bounty hunter becomes a slightly vulnerable and almost cartoon-like character. The shift from cinematic realism to stylized sculpture introduces a subtle sense of irony, inviting viewers to reconsider the emotional dimension of these mass-cultural icons.

Over the past two decades, KAWS has developed one of the most recognizable sculptural languages in contemporary art. His works have been exhibited in major institutions worldwide and collected by both museums and private collectors. Figures such as Boba Fett demonstrate the artist’s ability to operate at the intersection of fine art, collectible design, and global pop culture. By combining iconic imagery with a distinctive visual vocabulary, KAWS has created a body of work that resonates across multiple audiences and cultural contexts.
